For a lot of parents, the idea of family prayer sounds beautiful — and a little intimidating. But prayer at home doesn't need a script, a special room or a perfect quiet moment. It just needs someone willing to start.
Begin small. Thank God for three things at dinner. Ask your child one thing they're worried about before bed, then pray about it together. Let them hear you talk to Jesus about your own day, even when it's hard.
Use the words they understand. Preschoolers can pray short thank-yous. Older kids can write prayers in a journal. The goal isn't length or eloquence; it's helping them know God listens and cares.
Most of all, keep it light. Laugh when a toddler thanks God for dinosaurs. Celebrate when a teenager opens up. The habit of prayer grows best in a home where it's safe, honest and a little bit fun.
